Wylde about….Abundance.
I sat opposite an off duty chef at a dinner recently.
He was telling me how much he enjoyed cooking at this time of year, and I couldn't help but agree.
We're at that fleeting, magical point where autumn delights such as squashes sit alongside tomatoes and other high summer produce.
It's a time of real natural bounty. Beautiful and ephemeral. Blink, and it's gone.
It's well worth celebrating.
Certainly pretty much every human who ever lived until about the last 100 years or so did.
Indeed, at least in my mind, ‘harvest festival’ - before it became so insipid and dreary - would have been a drink-fuelled knees-up: a wholly justified bender to celebrate the end of weeks of back-breaking work and, hopefully, having enough food to see you through winter.
Because the truth is that agriculture really ain’t easy. Just ask anyone who does it. And that’s before you factor in droughts like we’ve had this summer.
So, over your Sunday lunch this afternoon, I invite you to join me in raising a glass to abundance and to the incredible people who provide it.
PS - don’t forget that the Goodwood Health Summit is this coming Thursday. It promises to be an absolute cracker.
