Wylde about….30%.
It’s been rather warm of late, hasn’t it?
Here and on the other side of la manche, of course.
‘We are now indisputably living with the undeniable effects of climate change,’ one sage pal told me last week.
Quite.
And yet while folk will continue to beat themselves about all sorts of things that may or may not meaningfully contribute to the problem, there is still precious little focus on the one area where we have a real ability to make a genuine difference.
Food.
Yep, food and agriculture account for 30% of global emissions. Thirty per cent.
Aviation accounts for just 3%.
So there’s at least the risk, then, that while we conscientiously and earnestly wring our hands and fret about whether we should be going on holiday to Morecambe* this year instead of Marrakech, we end up distracting ourselves from the frankly far more important issue of what we choose to eat.
Because the truth is that every single day - breakfast, lunch and dinner - we are making choices. And those choices send very clear signals to the people who produce our food: “here’s what we want you to produce, and here’s how we’d like you to produce it.”
Collectively, therefore, we have significantly more agency in this matter than might first be apparent.
I find that thought incredibly energising.
I hope you do too.
Go organic.
Go regenerative.
Go Wylde.
