In our comunidad in Spain, there was a lovely young girl who lived up the road.
She used to babysit our sons.
Her name was Maria.
She was from a truly wonderful family and her Mum was justifiably famous for her tortilla de patatas.
Two weeks ago, Maria - who's now all grown up, with a degree in Global Sustainable Development and a course at Leiths under her belt - joined the Wylde comunidad.
She's the newest member of the team, and that’s her in the photo above - treating the rest of us to her delicious take on her Mum’s iconic dish.
I’ve been thinking about community a lot recently.
When Ella and I set the market up, I think the idea of community was always in the back of our minds.
But we never expected this.
The way in which you rallied around Mary, Peter, Andrew and Jonathan this week after their farm fire was extraordinary, and - for us - extraordinarily humbling. The family has asked us to express their heartfelt appreciation for your support.
And then there’s our current crowdfunding campaign.
We were oversubscribed almost immediately. Wow. And yet we know, because you’ve told us – that many more of you would like to participate*.
So I’m very happy to tell you that we’ve decided to keep the campaign open so that you can still invest.
And if you want to invest £500 or more, you’ll get one of the rather lovely Wylde hoodies that that team are sporting in the photo below.
Perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised by all this.
Wylde, at heart, is about sitting down to break bread together - the joy of eating great food, with great people, and hearing the stories of both.
And isn't that, in the end, the very definition of 'community'?
Nick
PS – the market is open.
