Wylde about....Tribe.

Wylde about....Tribe.

Some of the stuff Bruce Parry gets up to is really quite full on.

His most recent ‘Tribe’ series on the BBC* is nothing if not gripping.

Not necessarily pleasant, I should say, but gripping all the same.

3 hour long episodes.
3 different continents.
3 relatively uncontacted tribes.

And Bruce Parry goes to live with them.

In amongst the copious vomiting, the ritual suffocations, the (what might euphemistically be termed) ‘field’ dentistry and circumcisions (I did warn you), there is a strikingly common theme.

Because each tribe – whether it’s in South America, Africa or Asia – demonstrates a profound respect, probably even better described as love, for the land that sustains them.

It is constant. And it is consistent. Men, women, young and old.

Like our producers, all these people rightly understand that it is a mere six inches of soil that - for all of us who have the immense good fortune to live on this ball hurtling its way through space - keeps us all fed.

You understand that too, of course, and that’s why you’re part of this tribe - the Wylde Tribe.

And I, for one, wanted to say thank you.

Nick

PS – Reynard is safe. Thank you to everyone who expressed their concern. No doubt he'll update you as and when he turns back up here 😬

PPS - market’s open, innit.

*it’s on iPlayer here and well worth a watch.
