And so what better day to celebrate the humble leek?
It’s not a hardship, let me tell you. Because I LOVE leeks.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Wales' national allium is 'well lush'.
Sweet, sharp and packed with bite and complex flavours, I’ve charred leeks on barbecues, chucked them into stews, sliced 'em finely and eaten them raw, made omelettes and soups with them, the lot.
Leeks are seriously versatile and - in my view at least - seriously underrated.
Am I unusual in this amor alliorum?
