Wylde about....Chemical Carrots.

There’s a brilliant Irishman called Kenneth.

He’s an organic farmer over in Galway, and the picture above is his.

Recently Kenneth was on Instagram asking why he, as an organic farmer, has to pay for the privilege of organic certification.

Why, he asks, is the burden of responsibility on him to prove that he doesn’t use chemicals and other nasties on his farm?

And why isn’t there instead, a responsibility on the part of ‘conventional’ growers to list all the various products that they do use on their farms?

It’s an excellent question.

And I, for one, don’t have a good answer for it.

Perhaps we should all be thinking of ‘conventional’ farming as chemical farming?

Because if we were to ask our great great grandparents - and frankly every human who ever lived before them, I think they’d be fairly clear that there’s nothing remotely ‘conventional’ about tipping chemical after chemical on the food that we eat.

Wouldn't they?
